About Indonesia Corporate Sustainability Outlook 2025

Driving Indonesia’s Green Economy and Sustainability Goals Toward Vision 2045

Indonesia is in the midst of a transformation towards Vision 2045, with a green economy as a main pillar for sustainability and global competitiveness. The government targets a reduction of 86 million tons of CO2e emissions and the creation of 4.4 million jobs by 2045, with a projected annual economic growth of 6.22% until 2045.

The National Development Planning Council (Bappenas) has launched the Indonesia Green Economy Index (GEI) to measure the progress of the green economy through environmental, social, and economic indicators, focusing on sustainability and the circular economy. This transformation aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2060, with significant emissions reductions in the energy sector, which in 2021 contributed about 600 million tons of CO2, making Indonesia the ninth largest carbon emitter in the world, in accordance with Law No. 98 of 2021 that regulates market mechanisms to support the transition to a green economy.

In addition, the business sector plays a crucial role in supporting sustainability innovations that can accelerate the green economic transition, through product innovation, environmentally-friendly technologies, and the implementation of ESG that supports sustainability. Therefore, sustainability innovation becomes a key contribution of the business sector in supporting emissions reduction and accelerating the adoption of a circular economy.
